Bay Area Production Company, Role Players Ensemble, as part of the Eugene O'Neill festival, is looking for a drummer for the stage play "The Emperor Jones".
This 1920 stage play by American dramatist Eugene O'Neill tells the tale of Brutus Jones, a resourceful, self-assured African-American, who escapes to a small, backward Caribbean island where he sets himself up as emperor. The play recounts his story in flashbacks as Brutus makes his way through the jungle in an attempt to escape former subjects who have rebelled against him. Because this play is set in the Caribbean, we are looking for a West Indies / Afro-Haitian sound throughout the performances.
Rehearsals for "The Emperor Jones" will begin August 15, 2016 and are Sundays at 6 pm and Monday-Thursday at 7 pm. However, drumming would not be integrated until September 6, 2016. Tech and dress rehearsals are Sunday - Thursday, September 18-22;
Performances are September 23, 24, 25, 30 and October 1, 2 (Friday/Saturday shows at 8 pm, Sunday shows at 2 pm).
We will also need a drummer for the companion piece "N", a staged reading to be performed on Thursday, September 29th at 8:00 pm. Only two rehearsals are scheduled for the staged reading and will take place between September 26 - September 28th.
Salary for these projects is $900.
