Based on the smash-hit movie, Priscilla Queen of the Desert the Musical is the heartwarming, uplifting adventure of three friends, Tick, Bernadette and Adam, a glamorous Sydney-based performing trio who agree to take their show to the middle of the Australian outback. They hop aboard a battered old bus (nicknamed Priscilla) searching for love and friendship and end up finding more than they ever could have ever dreamed of. With a dazzling array of outrageous Olivier and Tony award-winning costumes and a hit parade of dance floor favourites including "It's Raining Men, I Will Survive, Hot Stuff, Finally, Boogie Wonderland, Go West, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, and I Love The Nightlife, this wildly fresh and funny musical is a journey to the heart of fabulous!
Audition Preparation: All roles are open. Looking for a very diverse cast. Actors will be seen in order of arrival. Prepare 16-32 bars of an uptempo pop/rock song. Please bring sheet music in your key, your resume and a headshot if you have one. An accompanist will be provided. All must sing first and, if appropriate, will be asked to attend a dance call each evening. A call back audition, if needed, will be held on Wednesday April 12th, 6:30 to 8:30pm. Those auditioners who the director wishes to see further will be invited to the call back audition.
Bernadette Male, 40-59; outstanding straight acting, dance, singing (range adaptable) and lip-synching ability essential; quietly dignified transsexual who must be convincing as an older woman who was once the star performer of Les Girls'; mother of the group; glamorous, oozing Old Hollywood charm with rapier wit and sensitivity; must be able to be convincing and touching in her attraction and growing relationship with Bob; played in film by Terence Stamp.
Mitzi/Tick: Male, 30-40; with an unremarkable and essentially straight exterior, Tick is a discontented drag queen, the best in the business; estranged husband of Marion and absent father to eight-year-old Benji, his journey from disillusionment to fulfillment through being reunited with his son is the central core of the story; outstanding acting, singing (baritone/tenor), and dancing ability; speaks with an Australian accent.
Felicia/Adam: Male, 20-30; a flashy, sexy drag queen and born performer with a more than occasional b*tchy streak; provocative and outspoken, he has a tendency to get himself into trouble with both friends and complete strangers; very well-maintained physical features (which he loves to show off); outstanding acting, singing (tenor), dancing, and lip-synching ability; speaks with an Australian accent.
Bob: Male, 40-60; Strong acting ability with one song. A mechanic. Typical laconic attitude, soft hearted Aussie bloke who spent years wandering around the world only to find he was better off where he started. Has a fascination with Bernadette whom he saw perform in Les Girls' in Sydney more than twenty years ago.
Frank: Male, 20-30; Tough miner bloke with violent tendencies. A hardened resident of mining town Coober Pedy. Tall, strapping and very outback Australian. Character acting, dance and singing ability, mostly all ensemble pieces with one key scene.
Ensemble: Males, 18-40; excellent acting, singing and dance ability. A number of performers are required to play a variety of ensemble characters in the production.
