Auditions for "1776" Musical.
1776' uses songs and dialog to tell the story of John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and other founding fathers as they debate and vote upon their decision to approve the Declaration of Independence in the sweltering summer heat in colonial Philadelphia. The lyrics and music for 1776' were written by Sherman Edwards, and the book was written by Peter Stone. The show won a total of 6 Tony Awards in 1969, including "Best Musical." In 1998 the show won a Tony as "Best Musical Revival."
