Performance Dates: January 13-15, 20-22, 27-29, 2017
(Fri. and Sat. performances at 8 p.m. and Sun. performances at 3 p.m.)
One of Tennessee Williams' greatest works, The Glass Menagerie is a memory play drawn from the mind of it's narrator, Tom Wingfield. Also a character in the play, Tom is an an aspiring poet toiling away in a shoe warehouse to support his mother, Amanda, and his sister, Laura. Abandoned by their father years before,
the family struggles to survive in a meager, back alley apartment in St. Louis in the late 1930s. Like his father, Tom is desperately looking for a way out. His introverted sister Laura seeks escape in an imaginary world of glass figurines. Amanda, a faded relic of a time past, fights with all her might to find happiness
for her children. The action unfolds as Amanda furiously plots to rescue Laura with the help of a gentleman caller.
TOM WINGFIELD (M) - Stage Age: Mid 20s - early 30s. The play's narrator, he recounts memories of his family to the audience. Languishing in a dead end job in the shoe warehouse, Tom is a restless dreamer, torn between his responsibility to his family and chasing his desires. Explosive, mercurial, lonely,
he is deeply devoted to his sister and constantly at odds with his mother.
THE GENTLEMAN CALLER/JIM O'CONNOR (M) - Stage Age: Late 20s - early 30s. A co-worker of Tom's from the warehouse and a former classmate of Laura's. He is your average, everyday, nice guy. He has an easygoing demeanor. His popularity and promise peaked in high school but, he continues to approach the world with a positive outlook.
Please prepare a 1-2 minute dramatic, American monologue from Tennessee Williams or in a similar and appropriate style. Bring your headshot and resume if available. For callbacks, be prepared to read from the script.
