Casting the role of Martin - the lead role in "Pooka", an original play: In "Pooka", 12-year-old outcast Martin is terrorized by middle school bullies and his mother's ne'er-do-well boyfriend, with only his precocious best friend - and sometimes love interest - Daphne to confide in. When a mischievous shapeshifter from Celtic folklore promises to fix Martin's life, he soon realizes that no magic wish can remodel his fractured reality. Written by James Mclindon, "Pooka" is a darkly whimsical and surprisingly comedic story of angst, resilience, and growing up.
Seeking an adult actor who exudes a youthful quality both physically and in demeanor.
Despite being 12 years old, Martin and his best friend/potential girlfriend Daphne are by far the most intelligent characters of the play, with the most incisive commentary coming from them; unfortunately, Martin has zero control as his classmates bully him and his mom dates an abusive loser; the Pooka at first seems like a guardian angel, but as it becomes more out of control, Martin realizes you can't tame the wild hand of fate; Martin is funny, frustrated, sarcastic, and highly aware of how messed-up his world is.
