We are wrapping a film about a Muslim-American teenager who experiences bullying and discrimination in high school, and we are looking for an enthusiastic and committed South Asian actress to help us complete an important and unique scene. All of the major scenes have been filmed, but we are now focusing on pick-up shots.
We are looking for the following:
- Actresses who identifies as South Asian
- Age 18 and above
- Athletic - some running required
- MUST BE ABLE TO SPEAK URDU OR HINDI FLUENTLY.
- Willing to travel to Bucks County or Central Jersey (scene will be filmed in a park - currently scouting for best location)
- Reliable - Scene only requires ONE day of filming, most likely on a Saturday or Sunday. Date & location will be announced.
Although the film takes place during the present day, this particular scene is a period piece and takes place during British rule in India. The scene is a mystical, Sufi-inspired parable that takes place in a forest and explores the meaning of faith and compassion for humanity. The scene exists within another scene (already shot) where the mother of the protagonist tells him a story/parable (style is similar to Tarsem Singh's "The Fall" or Nacer Khemir's "Bab'Aziz"). Upon editing the scene, we believe actually showing the story would be more compelling and powerful. The South Asian female protagonist in the scene is faced with the dilemma of committing to religious ritual/dogma, or choosing to help others, the deeper meaning of faith. More details will be shared if interested. Again, all of the dialogue will be spoken in Urdu/Hindi - actress must be able to speak Urdu/Hindi fluently for the sake of authenticity.
Due to our low budget, we cannot offer compensation, but lunch will be provided. This is an important and timely project - we're aspiring to challenge conventional responses to Islamophobia and portray Muslims in a more complex and 3 dimensional way. The film will be submitted to film festivals nationwide upon completion.
Please submit your headshot and/or resume if you're interested!
