When I was 5 I asked my moms could I go to the grocery store by my self.
She said as long as I was back before the street lights came on. When I was
9 I asked my mom if I could go play on the tracks with my friends she said
as long as I was back before the street lights came on. When I was 11 I asked
my mom if I could be in a gang she said just be back before the street lights
come on. When I 13, I got arrested, my moms didn't even notice because I
was back before the street lights came on. My best friend killed herself at
14 and I got my behind beaten because I wasn't back before the street lights came
on. I used to asked my mother what does the street lights mean until one day
I found out. When I was 15 I became a foster child because my mother got
shot when the street lights came on. You see where I'm from all the bad things
happen in the light, to make it even more of a tragic experience for the unfortunate
ones who just so happen to watching. Some how street lights = violence and pain
and death. Somehow we all get into it whether we want to or not.
I know live in a place where there are no street lights. but I still fear the time
when the other ones come on.
