I just retired from the US Navy after 28 years of service. I was an Aviation Electronics Technician. I was a Hospital Corpsman in the Reserves. Received awards for the capture of 21 narco-terrorist and the seizure of more than 18.5 metric tons of narcotics and four trafficking vessels. I was aboard the USS Halyburton in 2009 during the Maersk Alabama hostage situation with Captain Philips. We became the first detachment to keep an aircraft flying for 40 hours straight without shutting down. That same detachment became the first to change a MGB (Main Gear Box) while at sea! What the movie doesn't tell you is that we occupied the waters off the coast of Somalia after Captain Philips was rescued. The plan was to go in locked and loaded to rescue more hostages. It was a bad idea and that is probably why we didn't do it. Our helicopter was a search and rescue helicopter. It wasn't made for combat situation like Somalia. I ran flight deck operations, planned maintenance schedules, disciplined Sailors, served as an Equal Opportunity rep for over 600 people, conducted Production Control meetings, coordinated and organized volunteer efforts for more than 300 individuals. Qualified in equal opportunity, weapons loading and unloading of an aircraft, arming weapons, Production Control procedures, Maintenance Control procedures, Quality Assurance procedures, TRX exercises and am a USATF Level I Track & Field Coach. I am currently working for the Jacksonville Jaguars on their Fan Experience GameDay staff and I coach track & field at Mayport Middle School in the spring. I am currently working on writing a book of my experiences during and after the military such as dealing with people and the VA healthcare system. My youngest son is supremely talented. He currently taps with a group called Noise Complaint. He is the only one out of the group who has had NO FORMAL TRAINING! They perform at cons and different events. I've included some of his videos.
