Mechelle V. Rayford is by trade an artist as well as an entrepreneur, continuously evolving and reinventing herself.
Mechelle holds a degree in Visual Communications as well as in Hospitality Management. In the early 90's she helped capture the emerging poetry scene. She worked closely with various artist in the Brooklyn, NY and surrounding boroughs; documenting their performances and day to day lives. Mechelle hosted her own forum known as Gumbo- a self expressive mlange of art and creativity- where she brought together artists of many genres not only for performance but as subjects for her photography.
Since getting her spoken word start at the Sunday Tea Party (now known as The Tea Party), Mechelle has read at numerous open mic venues in the New York area. Her main writing expressions come through short stories, science fiction and her current project, a comic book series. In addition, Mechelle has worked closely with the Tea Party putting together annual events consisting of artist, poets, and musicians. Her culinary skills also helped organize and cater the event.
As a member of the renowned Black Lotus, she showed off her writing and acting skills through her sultry vibe, witty humor and magnetic charm. She also used her visual skills to help create the publicity depicting the ensemble. They have toured the five boroughs of New York as well as New Jersey, and Philadelphia, as well as made several guest appearances on national radio.
Combining her many skills and talents, Mechelle ventures to pursue both acting and voice over careers.
