ABOUT THE PLAY:
This is the World Premiere of the powerful new play "TIME ALONE", written by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Alessandro Camon ("The Messenger") and produced by Suzanne Warren (whose credits include "Hacksaw Ridge", recently nominated for six Academy Awards, "The Last King of Scotland", and "Edge of Darkness"). The play launches a new and ambitious Los Angeles theatre project, Belle Reve Theatre Company.
Time Alone is the story of a young man convicted of killing a gang rival, and a middle-age woman whose son (a police officer) is murdered in the line of duty. Their parallel journeys deliver them to the world's most lonely places: a solitary confinement cell, and the silent house of a single mother who lost her only child. Both are pushed to the limits of their resilience - until they find a door into each other's life.
It is important for the actors to note that the characters are not in a dialogue: they address the audience rather than one another. Their tales are intersecting monologues spoken from different places. While one is speaking, the other should not appear to be listening. At any given point, the non-speaking character might be engaged in simple activities (exercising, cleaning, eating, reading, etc.), or disappear in darkness.
Because of its stripped-down nature, the play will rely heavily on the strength of the actor's work. Imagery and sound effects will be stylized and evocative, rather than a literal rendering of the experience being narrated. Overall, the play will have an intimate, confessional quality. It will be intellectually complex, emotionally challenging, and a 'tour de force' performance.
