Auditions for spring production of The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde.
Easily Oscar Wilde's best known and wittiest play, this high-brow farcical comedy is set in Victorian London, 1895 and is filled with identity confusions, confounding conundrums, and back-handed courtships. The story follows a young gentleman, Jack Worthing, who is in love with his friend Algernon's cousin, Gwendolyn. But Jack is leading a double life as "Ernest" while Algernon, who is in love with Jack's young ward, Cecily, professes a similar lie pretending to have a sick friend by the name of "Bunbury" to avoid social obligations. All is revealed in the end in devilishly, Wilde ways!
Parts available for 5 males, 4 females. Auditions are open to the community. Auditions held on a first-come, first-served basis.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. You will be asked to do an RP (Standard British) dialect. Auditioners are encouraged to prepare a one-minute comedic monologue from any published play (no dialect required for the monologue). Monologues should best portray actor's strengths and must be memorized. It is requested that auditioners bring an 8x10 color photo-headshot and resume of acting experience, if available, but this is not required. Scripts may be checked out in advance.
